Dr Mensa Otabil

HISTORY OF ICGC

The story of International Central Gospel Church is the story of grace, divine favour, and the goodness of God. Our achievements, our impact on society, the example we are providing in leadership and our potential for the future, are the result of the sovereign act of God in our lives.

The Birth of International Central Gospel Church

On the 26 February 1984, in a classroom in Kanda, Accra, Ghana, Dr Mensa Otabil declared the birth of a new church, the International Central Gospel Church. At its inaugural meeting, the church had a membership of about twenty young people.

Pastor Mensa Otabil declared that God had called him "to build a model indigenous New Testament Church and lift up the image of the people of Africa and African descent."

This is summarized in the mission statement as follows:

"Raising Leaders, Shaping vision and Influencing Society through Christ"

For 30 years, we have seen lives transformed, families restored, and individuals develop Christian character. We have promoted the development of the entrepreneurial potential of our people, provided leadership to the Body of Christ in clear distinct ways, and made inroads into raising the standard of living for the deprived in society.

Missions and Church Growth

ICGC went through transitional moves from its inaugural location in Kanda, and in 1986 moved to Baden Powell Memorial Hall. It was during its stay here that ICGC planted churches at Koforidua, Takoradi, Cape Coast and Akwatia, Oda, Swedru, Kumasi, and later at Tema and Adenta, all in Ghana. Since then, the missionary drive of ICGC, has produced 371 local assemblies, with an additional "157 gospel listening centres" in the rural areas of Ghana, totalling 528.

On the international front, the work of the church has in recent years, gained momentum and began to flourish, with 27 assemblies established in the Untied States of America, and 7 in the European countries of the United Kingdom, The Netherlands (Holland), Italy, Denmark and Sweden.

A warm welcome awaits all who subscribe to the ICGC mission of Leadership, Vision and Influence, at these ICGC European assemblies, with a special clarion call to those who embraced the vision along this 30 year period and have relocated to Europe. The vision is still burning and God is still calling you for a reconnection, "for it is TIME FOR EUROPE TO RUN".
