Rev. Edwin Obeng Donkor is the Senior Pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (King’s Temple) assembly in Newham, East London; where he pastors a steadily growing congregation of vibrant, spirit-filled worshippers. He is also the General Secretary of the International Central Gospel Church.
Rev. Donkor attended the Mfantsipim School in Ghana and proceeded to the University of Science and Technology to study Graphic Design. After 6 years of study, he passed out with distinction as an accomplished designer and obtained a First Class Honours degree just before his 22nd birthday.
From the University, he joined the Audio Visual Services Department of the Ministry of Information, where he helped to design and produce resource materials for teaching in schools, for workshops, seminars and for national public awareness and educational campaigns. In all 5 nationally-organised competitions in the field of Graphic Design, that he participated in, his works won first prizes.
Rev. Donkor’s life went through a dramatic change when a younger colleague joined the staff at the department. That colleague, is now Dr. Mensa Otabil General Overseer of the InternationalCentral Gospel Churches. Dr Otabil's intercession and kind friendship led Rev. Donkor to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in August 1980.
Rev. Donkor used to suffer from a speech impediment which began at the age of four, and which left him unable to communicate eloquently. This caused him to grow up as a frustrated angry little boy with an explosive temperament. Through peer pressure he tried to boost his self – confidence with alcohol and smoking from the age of 12 which became an addiction and lasted for 13 years, until Jesus came into his life. When he received the biblical experience of the Holy Spirit baptism, God destroyed the bondage of these habits and loosened his tongue, calling him to preach and teach His Word as a Pastor. This calling, he has been faithfully and diligently pressing on to fulfil for the past 24 years, in obedience to God.
Rev. Donkor served as the Assistant Pastor to Dr. Otabil from the founding of the International Central Gospel Church on 26th February 1984, in the first assembly that has come to be known as Christ Temple. He moved to Takoradi in 1988 to exercise pastoral oversight over the new church which was to be planted there. As its first pastor, he led the church and saw it grow to a considerable size in the 6 years that he was in charge, and experienced the joy of settling God’s people in their own auditorium, a place of worship that is still significant in the city today.
He returned to Accra and served under Dr. Otabil as the Deputy Senior Pastor and also the first General Secretary of the International Central Gospel Church, a position he has served in well over 10 years now.
In July 2005, Rev. Donkor moved to London in the United Kingdom to pastor the second ICGC assembly established in the city, and now renamed King’s Temple assembly. He is also a trustee of Central Trust.
Rev. Donkor preaches with a passion to bring the unsaved to the love and salvation that is in Jesus Christ, and teaches to equip God’s people to partake of their full inheritance in Christ, living victoriously in the abundant life that Jesus has brought to all who believe. He also teaches with grace on marriage and family development.
Rev. Donkor believes that Jesus has made every believer a king and a priest unto God so that we can reign in life, and also serve God as priests, by taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to all men so they can be reconciled to God (Rev. 1:5-6, Rom. 5:17).
In King’s Temple he says, “We minister to release the King in everyone”.
Rev. Donkor is married to Beatrice his beautiful wife of 20 years, and are the blessed parents of 3 teenage children, Edwin jnr., Ziona and Leonard.
